Post Falls has one more tool for shaping its future. On October 7, the City announced that the U.S. Department of the Treasury has approved Idaho’s Opportunity Zone 2.0 nominations — including a newly designated Opportunity Zone right here in Post Falls.

The designation takes effect January 1, 2027. Opportunity Zones are designed to encourage private investment in designated areas through federal tax incentives for eligible investments, giving cities a way to attract development dollars toward infrastructure and economic opportunity.

Where the zone covers

The Post Falls Opportunity Zone spans a significant area of the city, generally covering the Pleasant View corridor west of McGuire Road, areas north of Interstate 90, and portions of the community south of the Spokane River. The area includes a mix of existing businesses, developing areas, and significant community assets.

What it means for residents

City leaders say the designation builds on ongoing efforts to support responsible economic development. “We’re excited to see Post Falls included in Idaho’s new Opportunity Zone designations,” said Mayor Randy Westlund. “This is another tool we can use to encourage investment, create new opportunities and help build the infrastructure that supports a strong local economy.”

For property owners and businesses inside the zone, the program offers another resource for investment decisions — and the City says it can help connect interested parties with information about the program and its potential benefits.

Post Falls has been growing steadily for years, and designations like this one help make sure that growth comes with the infrastructure to support it. For village residents, a stronger local economy means better roads, thriving local businesses, and a community that keeps getting better.

The program is part of a broader federal effort renewed for 2026, and Idaho’s nominations were among those approved nationwide. As the January 2027 effective date approaches, expect more detail from the City on how local property owners and investors can take part.
